United Labs and Novo Nordisk Announce Phase 2 UBT251 Results

The United Laboratories International Holdings Limited and Novo Nordisk A/S announced topline results from a Chinese phase 2 trial of UBT251, reporting up to 19.7% mean weight loss after 24 weeks in adults with overweight or obesity.

  • Trial design: A randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial enrolled 205 Chinese patients with obesity (BMI ≥ 28.0 kg/m²) or overweight (24.0 kg/m² ≤ BMI < 28.0 kg/m²) with at least one weight-related comorbidity. Patients received once-weekly subcutaneous injections of 2 mg, 4 mg, 6 mg or placebo for 24 weeks.
  • Primary endpoint: From a baseline mean body weight of 92.2 kg, the highest mean weight loss observed was 19.7 per cent (-17.5 kg) compared with 2.0 per cent (-1.6 kg) in the placebo group at 24 weeks.
  • Additional data: All dose groups showed statistically significant improvements versus placebo in waist circumference, blood glucose, blood pressure and lipids. The most common adverse events were gastrointestinal, mostly mild to moderate. Novo Nordisk has initiated a global phase 1b/2a trial, with topline data expected in 2027, and expects to initiate a phase 2 trial in people with type 2 diabetes in the second half of 2026.
