A study by the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) has identified blood-based protein markers associated with the development of psychosis in at-risk Asian youth.

• Biomarkers: Researchers identified protein patterns linked to immune system dysregulation, inflammation and blood clotting in individuals who later developed psychosis.
• Methodology: The study followed 173 individuals aged 14 to 29, including 65 participants identified as being at ultra-high risk of psychosis, using blood plasma analysis and machine learning models.
• Findings: Predictive models tailored to the Asian cohort achieved accuracy rates of up to 96 per cent, although further validation studies are still required before clinical implementation.
