The European Commission has approved a 7.2 mg once-weekly maintenance dose of Wegovy® (semaglutide) for adults with obesity across all 27 European Union countries, providing an additional option for patients requiring greater weight reduction.

• Dosage Update: The 7.2 mg maintenance dose may be prescribed as three 2.4 mg injections taken in one sitting once weekly; a single-dose 7.2 mg pen has been submitted for EU approval.
• Clinical Data: In the STEP UP trial (1,407 participants), adults with obesity without diabetes lost an average of 21% of body weight when treatment was taken as planned, compared with about 2% on placebo. Around one in three participants lost 25% or more of their body weight.
• Safety Profile: The most common adverse events were nausea, diarrhoea and vomiting (24.8%) and dysaesthesia (22.9%), generally reported as mild to moderate and transient.
