• Technology use: OCT is a non-invasive imaging method that uses light waves to produce cross-sectional and 3D images of the retina and optic nerve, alongside true-colour fundus photography for structural comparison.
• Clinical application: The tool is used selectively when symptoms such as blurred vision, unexplained vision loss, or visual distortion are present, supporting assessment of macular and structural changes.
• Referral support: OCT imaging provides detailed measurements of retinal layers and macular thickness, helping clinicians make informed decisions and determine whether further medical referral is required.
