The National University Hospital (NUH) in Singapore is set to expand the use of wearable technology for inpatient vital signs monitoring following a successful pilot programme.

• Early Detection: The month-long pilot, concluded in June 2026, found that continuous smartwatch monitoring could identify changes in patients’ vital signs up to two hours earlier than routine manual observations.
• Continuous Monitoring: Patients wore Health Sciences Authority (HSA)-approved smartwatches that continuously monitored blood pressure, pulse rate and blood oxygen saturation, supporting earlier clinical intervention and post-surgical care.
• Expansion Plan: NUH aims to have up to 10% of suitable inpatient vital signs monitoring supported by wearable technology over the coming year.
